Where Silence Sways
Sometimes the quietest moments have the most to say.
Where Silence Sways is a gentle, contemplative solo piano piece shaped by subtle textures and understated movement.
Gentle textures and a delicate rhythmic pulse create a sense of calm, while subtle shifts in harmony give the music a feeling of something quietly unfolding.

With Where Silence Sways, I wanted to step away from some of the familiar patterns I often return to in my piano writing.
Rather than building the piece around a flowing melody and arpeggiated bass, I became more interested in what could be created through texture.
The piece grew from that idea, allowing the piano to become less about melody and accompaniment and more about the way different sounds sit alongside one another. The gentle rhythmic pulse and changing harmonies give it movement, while the textures create much of its character.
It was an enjoyable experiment in doing something a little different – finding beauty not in a traditional melody, but in the spaces, layers and subtle changes within the music.
