Morning Mist
A quiet morning wrapped in mist and light.
Morning Mist captures the stillness of an early morning, when the world feels softened and distant beneath a veil of mist.
Gentle melodies unfold above a flowing accompaniment, creating a sense of calm and quiet movement. Inspired by Grieg’s Morning Mood, the piece brings a contemporary voice to that familiar feeling of a new day beginning.

Morning Mist began in a rather unexpected place – a school on sports day.
I was working there as a peripatetic piano teacher, but nobody had thought to tell me it was sports day, so most of my pupils never arrived for their lessons. Left sitting at the piano with time to spare, I started tinkering up and down the black keys.
Then I heard it…
The notes I was playing were the main notes of Grieg’s Morning Mood. I had stumbled upon the opening of the piece that would become Morning Mist, and by the time I got home, half of it was already written.
What began as unexpected spare time at a piano became my contemporary take on that familiar melody – a quiet piece inspired by the atmosphere of an early morning, and a reminder that sometimes the best musical ideas arrive when you’re not looking for them.
