Midnight Sun

Some nights are made for staying awake.

There is something exhilarating about a midnight sun, when the darkness never quite arrives, and the world seems to keep moving.

Midnight Sun brings together a driving pulse, flowing piano figures and a hint of something unexpected. Bright, rhythmic and full of movement, it captures the feeling of being carried along by a night that refuses to end.

Behind the piece:

Released • September 1 2025

Midnight Sun gave me the chance to explore a rather different side of my writing. Most of my piano music tends towards the reflective and atmospheric, but this piece wanted to move.

The music is built around a strong rhythmic pulse and continuous flowing figures, with a hint of Latin influence that brings a completely different energy to the piano.

I really enjoyed stepping outside my usual style with this piece. It has a sense of movement and vitality that doesn’t appear as often in my other piano writing, and that is part of what makes Midnight Sun feel different.
