Edge Of Winter

Some seasons are easier to welcome than others.

Edge of Winter was written as the darker months began to arrive. Rather than dwelling on what lay ahead, the music gently searches for light, warmth and hope, reminding us that even in the coldest seasons, brighter days are never too far away.

Flowing rhythms and quietly optimistic melodies carry the music forwards, capturing the quiet resilience that helps us keep moving, one step at a time.

Winter has never been my favourite season, and I often find myself missing the warmth, colour and longer days that come before it.

Rather than reflecting that feeling directly, I wanted to write something that looked beyond it. The music doesn’t dwell on the approaching winter. Instead, it gently searches for light, warmth and hope, even as the days grow shorter.

Looking back, it’s perhaps fitting that Edge of Winter became my first piece to be broadcast on the BBC. A week before Christmas in 2025, a simple email from BBC Introducing arrived to tell me that the piece had just been played on the radio.
It was my first ever BBC broadcast, and a moment I’ll always remember. Quietly, without me realising it at the time, it marked the beginning of a completely new chapter.
