Icicles grew from the contrast between two very different colours of sound. I wanted the upper register to feel bright, crisp and almost glass-like, with the flowing notes suggesting the irregular shapes and movement of ice.
Against this, the deeper sounds create a darker presence beneath the surface. The music moves between these contrasting colours, capturing both the sparkle of ice and the colder depths beneath it.
