Sea Breeze

Sea Breeze was written from the simple image of warm air moving gently across open water. I wanted the music to have a natural sense of movement, with nothing feeling forced or overly dramatic.

I was drawn to creating a sound world that felt light, open and transparent, allowing the textures to move freely while the harmony shifted underneath. Much of the character came from following my ear and letting the music find its own direction organically.

It was only later that I realised the piece had taken me somewhere rather unexpected harmonically. The opening centres around G with a Lydian character before moving naturally into A major, yet to my ear the transition feels almost effortless. It is another example of how the music can sometimes find its own path before I fully understand what it is doing.
