Sometimes the journey matters as much as where it leads.
Beyond the Horizon is an energetic and expressive piano piece, driven by a sense of movement and anticipation. Its restless opening gradually gathers momentum before giving way to a strikingly different atmosphere.
At the heart of the piece is a sudden feeling of release — the music seems to leave the ground behind, opening into something lighter, quieter and almost weightless. It is a piece about movement, possibility and whatever might lie beyond the horizon.

Beyond the Horizon was written during a period when I was experimenting with more energetic, up-tempo piano pieces, around the same time as Falling Into Light and Midnight Sun.
The opening has a real sense of pursuit. There is something almost like a chase in the music, a constant sense of forward movement that keeps pushing towards what comes next.
What fascinates me most is the way the piece transforms towards the end. After all that energy and momentum, the music suddenly becomes quieter and more spacious, creating an almost weightless feeling. It is as though all that forward motion suddenly releases its hold, leaving the music suspended in the air.
