Embrace

Some melodies feel complete on their own. Others quietly invite another voice to join them.

Embrace explores that quiet dialogue through piano, violin and cello.

The piano provides a flowing backdrop while the strings take turns to lead, each voice given the space to speak before gently passing the melody to the other.
At times they stand alone. At others they intertwine so naturally that it becomes difficult to tell where one voice ends and the other begins.
Together, they become a musical conversation built on balance, trust and connection.

Behind the piece:

Embrace began life as a solo piano composition.
Although I loved the piano part, it felt less like a finished piece and more like a landscape waiting for a story to unfold.

After recording the piano, I turned to the violin and improvised the melody in a single take, simply responding to the music in the moment. The cello followed in exactly the same way.
Neither part was planned or rewritten; both were captured as they were first played.

It wasn’t until I listened back that I realised the piece had become something quite different from what I’d first imagined. The conversation between the violin and cello had emerged naturally, without ever being written or rehearsed. It remains one of the most instinctive pieces I’ve ever composed.
