Falling Leaves

Autumn has its own quiet beauty.

Falling Leaves captures the quiet beauty of autumn, when the world begins to change and familiar colours slowly give way to something new.

There is a sense of movement throughout the piece, but also a feeling of calm and reflection, like watching the leaves drift gently to the ground.

This piece began life in 2017, at a time when I wasn’t actively composing.

I had a piano student who was becoming interested in contemporary piano music, and I knew the kind of sound and style he enjoyed. I wrote Autumn with him in mind, simply because I wanted to give him something he might enjoy playing.

Years later, when I was putting together The English Garden Collection, I rediscovered the piece and felt it belonged there. I revived it for the collection and gave it a new name, Falling Leaves.
