Clear Moon

Some music seems to belong to the night.

There is something timeless about moonlight falling across a quiet landscape, transforming familiar surroundings into something softer and more mysterious.

Clear Moon draws on the beauty and atmosphere of Debussy’s iconic Clair de Lune, reshaping its familiar character through a lighter, more accessible piano setting.

Gentle, lyrical and luminous, it captures the feeling of a moonlit evening by the sea, where everything seems to slow, and the world takes on a different kind of beauty.

Behind the piece:

Released • July 4 2025

Clear Moon grew from my love of Debussy’s iconic Clair de Lune, a piece that has always held a special place for me. While I was writing the collection, Summer by the Sea, the idea of creating my own interpretation of a moonlit piece seemed a natural fit.

I wanted to capture something of the beauty and atmosphere of Clair de Lune, while creating a version that would be more approachable for pianists who may find the original challenging to play.

Clear Moon became my own interpretation of that familiar music, shaped by the way I naturally write. It was a chance to take music I had always loved and make it feel a little more like my own.
