This piece began life in 2017, at a time when I wasn’t actively composing.
I had a piano student who was becoming interested in contemporary piano music, and I knew the kind of sound and style he enjoyed. I wrote Autumn with him in mind, simply because I wanted to give him something he might enjoy playing.
Years later, when I was putting together The English Garden Collection, I rediscovered the piece and felt it belonged there. I revived it for the collection and gave it a new name, Falling Leaves.
